Société de Musique Contemporaine du Québec: L’Être et la nature

11 February @ 15 h 00 min - 17 h 00 min

Montréal horn player Gabriel Trottier presents a recital for horn and electronics inspired by nature and the human being, based on arrangements, adaptations and comprovisations of works by Sandeep Bhagwati.

In this concert, the virtuoso musician shares some of his common inspirations with the composer, notably their interests in interdisciplinarity (multimedia, poetry), innovation and improvisation.

Archipelago takes you on a journey through the sounds of Quebec’s Old Port, sailing to the sound of the waves and port activities, with an excerpt from the poem Nipinapunan by Aboriginal writer Alexis Vollant. Next, Sutra welcomes you to India, with sound recordings representative of its major cities blended with the sound of the horn. Two other pieces complete the programme: Stele IV pays a spatialzed tribute to German director Jürgen Gosch, and Exercices in Estrangement II L’Animal que donc je suis highlights the relationship between humans and nature. With this performance, Gabriel Trottier and Sandeep Bhagwati spotlights the horn in a contemporary context, while perpetuating the intrinsic link between nature and an instrument whose ancestors include the conch shell, the olifant and the hunting horn.
